Palliative Care

Palliative care is specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses. This care may be the right choice for you if you have a chronic illness, need relief from suffering, and require help to improve your quality of life and regain the ability to complete your daily activities.

Palliative care is about making you as comfortable and peaceful as possible, with pain management and mental support. We emphasize communication between our coordinated team and you and your loved ones.

Many people confuse palliative care with hospice. They are not the same. Unlike hospice care, palliative care does not stop curative treatment and does not require your illness to be end-stage or terminal.

You may benefit from palliative care services if you have:

  • A chronic, progressive pulmonary disorder, renal disease, congestive heart failure or a progressive neurological condition
  • Cancer requiring intense treatment
  • A history of hospitalizations
  • A recurring infection or non-healing wound
  • Psychosocial, emotional or spiritual distress
  • Pain or severe discomfort
  • Sudden and significant weight loss
  • Repeated falls
  • Uncertainty about treatment options or goals of care

Our palliative care services include:

  • 24-hour nursing care
  • A support system for mental and spiritual care
  • Help navigating the health care system
  • A team to help with pain control
